[ History ] : Ran Fujimiya was the happy son of a business man on July 4th, 1977. He had two loving parents and a younger sister he adored. Then, after returning from a festival with his sister on her birthday, he found his parents murdered along with the smell of gas flooding the home. Horrified, he managed to get himself and his sister out right before the house exploded. Aya escaped but Ran was trapped beneath the debris. From his position there, he could only watch as a car carrying a man known as Reiji Takatori struck his sister sending her into a coma.

By her hospital bed, he vowed revenge and took one of the earrings he’d bought her at the festival to place it in her hand. The other went into his left ear. After this, he joined an organization known as Kritiker. They moved him to one of the units within where he met a man named Shion in Sendai. He was greatly impressed by the man’s skill with a sword and asked him to teach him. At first, Shion refused but finally he began training him by having him arrange flowers. Eventually, a mission came around. On it, all were killed save for himself and one other. A man named Kikyou. And in Ran’s hand was the sword Shion had given him before the start of the mission. He moved elsewhere where he ended up meeting a young girl who would later turn out to be the little sister of a member from the group known as Crashers. He went on to join these men as a replacement while one of their members recovered. But all the while, he was desperate for revenge and was growing more and more volatile.

After Crashers, he was off on his own for a time until he was brought into Weiss. While in Weiss, he worked as a florist by day and a hunter by night. The money went towards his sister’s hospital bills. And he took on his sister’s name: Aya.

During his time among Weiss, he continued to hold his promise for vengeance. He found himself face-to-face with Schwarz (Takatori’s superhuman bodyguards), Schreient (the guards for one of Takatori’s sons), and even Takatori himself. Circumstances prevented him from getting what he wished for most. Then, he learned that Omi, a teammate, and Persia, his boss, were related to his enemy. And so, he went off on his own to go after the man he hated so much. Persia came to him and convinced him to return. Aya ended up coming back just in time to save his teammates from a trap which almost killed them. Takatori now had everyone looking for them. However, the four made it past all security to his office. Here they found Persia dying. With his final breath, Persia ordered Weiss to kill Reiji Takatori.

While the others handled those working for the man, Aya ran to the rooftop. There he fought and finally killed the man he’d hated for so many months.

Afterwards, Weiss disbanded. Persia was gone and there was no need for them anymore. So, he quietly moved his sister then went into construction to pay her bills. One night when he went to visit her though, he found a cross slashed in her bed and his sister nowhere in sight. Schreient wasn’t finished and soon Weiss was back…minus Aya. He planned to get his sister back his own way. It took the sacrifice of a man called Botan to make him change his mind. Together, Weiss went to Scheient’s hideout. However, it was Schwarz who finished off the women. And then they took his sister with them when they left.

Schwarz was part of a bigger organization known as Esset. And the leaders believed that Aya’s sister could help them gain eternal youth. Unknown to all, Schwarz was using a former victim named Sakura to further their own plans.

Finding Sakura in his sister’s place, Aya and the rest of Weiss went after the Esset leaders. Once more, Schwarz came in and finished things. Persia’s former secretary, Manx, arrived to take Sakura and Aya’s sister to safety. With the women safe, Weiss faced off against Schwarz until the building fell into the ocean. Both were thought to be gone for good.

Weiss survived the fall and for a year continued to do missions under a new Persia. Aya’s sister was awake now but he couldn’t bring himself to contact her though one could be sure that he kept his eye on her. He seemed to have no reason to continue doing missions but he never stopped. When Weiss was not on a mission, they were traveling around Japan in the van selling flowers. A way to move closer to targets without seeming to. But, they were starting to receive fewer and fewer missions. They noticed this easily. And worse, each member of the team was going through his own struggles.

They moved to Sendai. It had been two years since Aya had been here. But this mission was especially significant to him. The man behind the attacks was none other than a former comrade, Kikyou. It turned out that Kikyou had killed all the members of the Kritiker unit in this area though he had spared Aya. But there was one correction to make. Shion, Aya’s master, was still alive. Kikyou fell at his hands and he would find himself haunted by his words.

A year later, Weiss had moved to Kyoto. They had a mission there but when they finally moved in to take out the targets, they had been beaten to the punch. And more than that. Innocent people had also been killed. There’s nothing they could do but wait for their next mission. Going to a flower shop, Aya visited a man named Rindou who was making a flower arrangement that meant something to him. And then, they had their next mission. This time, Aya recognized the leader of the group who had beat them to their last mission as none other than Shion.

The van was moved to Kanagawa next. Omi was asked to make a delivery to Tsukiyono Castle. After this, Birman brought them their next mission. To investigate who was behind girls disappearing at the residence. Omi stayed there for a time to investigate the premises and as they waited for information Aya went to have his sword restored by a master swordsman. The task, it seemed, was impossible since his blade was a living sword. Coming back later, Aya found himself face-to-face with Shion who was holding his sword. But he was not there to threaten him or to kill him. Only to talk. They completed the mission later and went back to Kyoto.

Manx found them there with news that Shion’s group, the generation of Weiss before their own, had joined with a faction of Kritiker who were rebelling from the organization. They had kidnapped Birman and were trying to get the current Persia to step down. Manx had led an unsuccessful mission to stop this and had been injured. She survived long enough to come to them and give them a mission. Kill Birman so she wouldn’t tell the enemy anything important. Weiss left to go on a different task…to save her. They arrived at Shion’s hideout to find the woman had been torched. Putting her on Aya’s back, they tried to escape with her. While he ran with her, she asked for the gun he always carried. He handed it back to her and she killed herself with one shot to the head. Two of Shion’s group were killed later.

The two members of Shion’s group that were left went to visit the current Persia. Together, they killed off Persia and his entire family in the process. Weiss were given their final orders from this deceased man. Finish the leader of the rebels as well as Shion and his teammate. After that, he ordered them to wash their hands of Weiss and live normal lives. Omi went to his grandfather for answers and the man was almost assassinated while he was there. However, Omi managed to stop the attempt and Shion’s teammate met his end. The Weiss made an agreement that they would do what they felt was right and Omi left them to go be with this grandfather.

Shion killed the leader of the rebels and sent Aya an invitation to come fight him. Bringing Ken and Yohji with him, he went to face his former master. His friends were quickly hurt and taken down and it was left to him to fight Shion. The battle dragged out until finally his master slashed him. The fight seemed to be over when Aya pulled out his gun and shot his master. Shion was shocked by this and it seemed like he would still finish off his former student. But, instead of doing that, he stabbed himself. He died in Aya’s arms.

Aya, Ken, and Yohji were taken to the hospital. When Aya recovered, he eventually left the country and went to America. There he stayed for two years as a member of a US version of Weiss. After those two years, Omi contacted him to tell him that he was taking over the mantle of Persia and that he was also reforming Weiss.

Now relocated in Japan and a member of Weiss once more, Aya had a new mission that he was getting ready for. Infiltrate a school because Esset might be behind the strange events there. Two more newer members of Weiss joined him in this as students. Sena and Kyo. He became their teacher and for a time it seemed everything would just flow. But student suicides began to happen for those who had once been in S Class but couldn't handle it.

As it turned out there was a program written into the computers for those who fell out of S Class that pushed them to suicide. Kyo's brother had actually been one of the students to commit suicide at the school. A friend that Sena made was another one of these students and it caused Sena to become a loose cannon. Because of this, the boy went to the school and killed Inagaki who was controlling the school to begin with. This turned out to be the master plan of one of the students named Toudou who had discovered that Sena was Weiss.

The next day, Toudou caused chaos to break out at the school so that the students chased after Sena. Aya rushed in to save him. However, in the midst of it all Kyo was killed and it was set up to look like Kyo and Toudou killed each other. And a new class was revealed to them. The Z Class. As punishment, Sena was placed inactive.

This didn't stop Sena from heading off on his own though and it was up to Aya to save him from two Z Class students who clearly had superhuman abilities. Sometime during all of this, the rest of Weiss returned from their own mission in another country. Around this time, Persia arrived to give them all their final mission. And he would be joining them so that way he could forever put the name of Omi to rest. Together, they were to destroyed the labs creating artificial humans and the heads of the operation.

Upon arriving there, they seemed to be outclassed by the Z Class who was there. But, out of nowhere, Nagi arrived to take them down. As it turned out, Nagi was working for Omi now. With that taken care of, they proceeded into the building. Minus Youji and Aya. As it turned out, Youji had lost it and decided that he was going to join Tsujii (the creator of the artificial humans) so that way his memories could be erased. That way he could be happy. The two of them fought until there was an explosion that had been set off by the Crashers unit. Separated, Aya confronted Tsujii. Youji who was never nearby heard everything and was moved by Aya words. In that moment he decided to live on with Asuka's memories because forgetting her would truly kill her.

Youji stayed to take care of Tsujii and Aya moved on. But, he was too late to save Sena who had been shot by Fumie Kisaragi...Sena's own mother. After being there for Sena, he moved on to kill her and left the two to be together. After that, it was discovered that Epitaph...the mind behind everything...was a computer. A newly created Toudou arrived and Ken held his mouth shut when they learned that they couldn't defeat him so long as Toudou could talk. Aya stabbed them both but Ken had another kidney and would be alright. Then Omi killed Epitaph and soon the building was coming down.

Tsujii who had gotten away was caught by Youji who killed her. Unable to escape with the others, he had Aya's sword and promised to return it. He said he had a home to go to now and understood that. With that in mind, Aya, Omi, and Ken left.

They took time to recover and Aya made sure Youji got the care he needed. As it turned out, Youji lost his memories so Aya left him. After a talk with Mamoru (Omi), he said that he couldn't be in Weiss as long as it was there for the benefit of the Takatori. He went on to America leaving Ken behind as well to sort things out. While in America he became an assassin again. Rather than keeping all of the money he had though (since apparently he actually had quite a bit), he gave money to a church to take care of orphans on the street.

While walking one day, a little kid (yes, Aya who was never taken down by anyone ever) came by and stabbed him with a knife. Stumbling along, he ended up against a mailbox bleeding to death. A group of kids came along being chased and he got up enough strength to defend them. Right then a van came along to the rescue. In a spur of the moment decision, Aya jumped into the van when they told him to come with them. He passed out not that long after and they took him to their hideout and took care of him.

He woke up there and they continued to care for him. A young woman named Alison was taking care of a group of orphaned street kids and protecting them against a rival group. Among them was a boy named Yuki who had insisted that Aya be saved. During attacks, Aya proved to be one of them as he helped to protect everyone despite being injured. The rival group attacked again and it was revealed that the person who was helping Alison actually was obsessed with her and wanted her for himself. And that he was actually her enemy.

During it all, Alison was killed and Aya and Yuki were left behind. Aya was confronted by a man named Chloe and a woman named Mihirogi. After he came across them a second time, they asked him to join them. He accepted and he went with them. His reason for joining was that if any of them lost their heads then he reserved the right to kill them himself. To keep them from fully becoming monsters and losing everything. He even went so far as to speak to the leader to make sure that he wasn't just doing this for himself. That he was truly doing this for others.

There he finds out that Ken is already there and that they will team up to show their worth for joining Krypton Brand. They fought together and during this time Ken returned Aya's sword to him. He told him that Youji was happy now despite not knowing anything anymore. As long as Youji was happy then Aya was content. He took the sword...his Shion...and proceeded to continue in the fight. After the fight, Aya and Ken go to talk to KR and Mihirogi to join and Aya remembers Yuki. So he heads back to go and get him to bring him back with him to be a part of the group too. Together they head to England where their mission is leading them. Sometime during this, Free was brought in as well. He had once been a member of the Side A team (the team now is Side B).

The entire incident here connected several months later with a girl named Kurumi who was used to make a drug by her parents. However, she could also be used to create powerful medicines and she was given a choice to live or die. She chose live and became a part of the flower shop where the others worked. This drug was being given to superhuman Welsh soldiers fighting for independence. Prior to this incident, Ken met someone named Jonathan who was the brother of a former teammate of his from his soccer days. The teammate had been killed and trace amounts of the Orphan drug was found inside him.

It all continues on to a wedding that reveals things about Chloe's past and they are given a mission that leads them to a wedding. The drug was being sold there at the party and people were being killed. And as it turned out, that mission was a trap. And right as things get dramatic...

...It all ends. That's right. The series stops there.

[ Personality ] : Aya often comes across as very mature and calm. He tends to be polite towards those not familiar with him and also prefers that people not get too close to him. There are innocent people in the world and he doesn’t consider himself to be one of them. One of his infamous lines is that he's 'just a murderer.' For that reason, he wants to try not to taint them. Still, he is generally rather friendly towards others unless he has reason not to be. Even then, it is almost impossible to get him to trust someone completely. Early in his canon he was very cold towards others. He has warmed up since then be his lack of trust remains.

He’s a broken man on the inside searching for redemption that somehow seems to elude him. The fact is that he’s an assassin, formerly one of Kritiker’s best and now a member of K.R. But, this is not something that he’s proud of. The blood that stains his hands weighs heavily on him all the time. To him, he’s just a murderer. Not worthy of anything that might be considered good. Dramatic Precious showed us having nightmares of this and he even specifically states in a dream sequence in Side B that he and the rest of Weiss were just murderers. For this reason, he has not gone to see his sister since she woke from her coma four years ago. An important detail since she is the most important person to him. Kapitel showed us this when everything he did, including taking his sister's name, was all for her sake.

But, he still is a gentle and kind man. Even if he wouldn’t agree with this despite the fact that he would accept flowers from a young girl as a thank you from her. Or would give money to a church rather than keeping it all for himself as seen in the end of Gluhen. Those he accepts as friends, close enough for him to place trust in, are people he cares deeply about. For these people he has more concern and keeps a close eye on. Though, he usually tries to be very subtle about the fact that he’s doing so. Like watching Sena from the shadows in Gluhen. To gain this measure of trust takes a lot of work. And it is best not to break his trust since there is not real guarantee that you can ever get it back again. Yohji experienced this when Aya returned from America just before the start of Gluhen. All through that part of the series, he refused to trust him. It wasn't until the end when the building was collapsing that Yohji finally regained his trust. However, despite not trusting his friend, he still cared for him or he wouldn't have tried to help put him on the right path repeatedly.

On the flip side, when he does lose his temper, he is a force to be reckoned with. That anger burns cold and hot at the same time. This makes him deadly since he’s learned to control himself during these times. Rarely does he lose this control. But also rarely does he fully become angry now. When he does, you do not want to be on the other side of his sword. The thugs in New York experienced this first hand. And, he dealt with them while still injured.

When it comes to abilities he is good with, he has great confidence. It’s clear that he knows what he’s doing and will execute whatever the task is. Usually without a flaw. An example of a flaw being deaths of his teammates in Gluhen (Kyo then Sena later on). True there was nothing he could have done but that doesn't stop him from remembering this as seen in the dream he has while injured in New York in Side B. So, in a fight, he becomes very focused, observant, and prepared for anything. Ready to make sure that whatever the mission happens to be is completed. Often, he will put his life in harm’s way to ensure that this happens. He will not stop until the mission is complete. Sometimes, this means preparing to do something he doesn't agree with. Like needing to kill Kurumi if it proved necessary. These skills have a tendency to bleed into the rest of his life as well.

Aya can slip into moments of deep thought. During these times, memories are probably haunting him. When it comes to the mistakes of his past, he has many regrets. These are seen with the many scars he has on his body which he hides under his clothing all the time, revealed to us when his stab wound was being treated in Side B. Despite being confident in his abilities, he doesn’t have the confidence in his person to match it. Again, he’s just a murderer. And his greatest fear is that someday he’ll become someone that will have to be hunted down. That he will kill someone who has done nothing wrong. For that reason he once asked a former comrade of his from his Crasher days to kill him if that ever happened in Jazz Me Blues. Also, he thinks about a young boy called Sena who once said that there could be peace in the world one day. He wants to believe in that.

He's stuck in a stage where he wants to believe he can be saved but also believes there is no hope for him at the same time because of that. This is best seen at the end of Gluhen where he helps a church in New York but never actually comes inside for any of the services. If he did show up, he came late and stood by the door. And when he was dreaming of Weiss in Side B he recalled that though they were murderers, they had something. They had a connection that somehow made them good.

He’s grown a lot since he first joined Weiss. He has leadership qualities now, a mentor for the next generation. In Gluhen he makes it clear that one of his greatest hopes is that others will not repeat his mistakes. The power of hatred is something he knows well and if he can he’ll try to keep someone from falling into that path. His priority is to see to it that those he’s leading are alright. It’s very important to him. So he talked to Sena in Gluhen and told him how the power of revenge could harm the person who wanted it. He would know since the first half of Kapitel was all about him seeking out his revenge and to this day he has to live with what he did. Especially that he did it all in his sister's name.

All in all, Aya is a good man who is a trained killer. However, he only sees the killer side of himself anymore and doesn’t want others starting on his path to continue on it. He feels tainted and that has prevented him from talking to his own sister, the one person who is most precious to him. At the same time, he hopes that one day he might be able to see some kind of peace. Until then, he continues to do the only thing he knows how to do anymore. Fight.

[ Strengths/Weaknesses ] :
Strengths:

Physical: Aya is a trained assassin. He is very quick on his feet and extremely agile. There is a lot of strength that comes from using a katana the way he does. And he has been seen working a construction job as well, another place where he can apply his superior upper body strength. But he is able to use just about any other weapon that is placed in his hands. He has skill in hand-to-hand but his talents rest mostly with weaponry since that isn’t his specialty. That doesn’t mean he won’t hesitate to throw a punch though. His stamina is that of a fighter and his body shows off the lean muscle that has developed from his training and work as an assassin. There can be no doubts that he is very deadly. Even in his everyday life, he can’t help but to walk with predatory grace and quiet. He has very good balance as well and can do things like stand on top of fast moving vehicles without falling off. Like a predator, his reflexes are excellent. And so are his skills in stealth and tracking. Another thing is that he can keep going on fighting or doing things even when he's very injured.

Emotional: Intelligence is not something he is short on. While not an expert in technology, he still is extremely intelligent. One of his favorite activities is to read, after all. He tends to be a silent observer who notices things happening around him. Because his mental awareness is good, he’s rarely caught off guard. This allows him to maneuver his way out of things like getting shot and/or killed. Being that on guard can be a disadvantage to him as well though.

Aya has a certain ability to be able to push himself forward no matter what the situation. He typically doesn’t shut down. When his family was destroyed, he forced himself to continue on. When his sister was kidnapped, he did everything to find her. When his teammates ended up in a hopeless situation, he pulled them out of it. He can think quickly on his feet. And, he’s a very capable leader. Despite Omi being the actual leader of Weiss, the team does seem to look up to him and rely on him.

His mental discipline is quite extraordinary. When he sets his mind to doing something, he will see to it that it gets done. For that reason, Reiji Takatori fell by his sword.

There is a quiet strength that seems to float around him. He tends to be the most serious of his teammates (not including Free). And, for those he comes to trust, he shows a loyalty that cannot be questioned. He is quite willing to face an army on his own to save his friends. Aya can also be there to provide much needed encouragement. When Omi was struggling after being beaten by his brother, it was Aya who was there to encourage him about who he really is. When Yuki needed someone to watch out for him then he was there. Same with Sena. But, his emotions tend to take a back burner in his life. This can be a strength since it keeps him logical most of them time. However, there are consequences to pushing feelings aside.

More often than not, he’ll help others from the background. He doesn’t want them to know it was him helping. He is a great leader and mentor. Someone who tends to know just what to say when it needs to be said.

Weaknesses:

Physical: By no means is he a superhuman. While very skilled and very in shape, he can only push his body as far as his body will allow. And he does have a tendency to push his body past what it is capable of. During times when he has lost his temper, he will fight in a manner that tends to injure him rather than help him. He will try to but he cannot keep up with superhuman speed and can only struggle against superhuman strength. Also, he heals slowly just like your average human would. That habit of continuing on even while injured doesn’t help either.

Emotional: Aya's greatest flaw emotionally is how he beats himself up. Though he won't let other people know it, he looks at himself as covered in blood. He isn't worth anything if you ask him. This can be a key thing to who he is because he is looking for redemption. A way to atone for all that he is done. At the same time, he is convince that this is impossible for him. He really continues to fight because he knows that there are those who need him.

Often he has nightmares of all the things he has done. He doesn't think of himself as good even though the rest of the world sees this. Perhaps to go along with this he is highly self-sacrificing. This can be an enormous weakness because people can use this against him if they work things the right way. After all, even after all this time of not seeing his sister he is still worried that his sister would hate him. He knows what he's done is wrong and it eats him up on the inside.

That said, he still has some of the temper he used to have. And if you attack someone he is trying to protect then he will attack.

Aside from that, it is very difficult to read his emotions. Only people who have known him for years can manage it. This is because he tends to bury his emotions deep down in order to be strong. This is considered a weakness since it makes it difficult to get close to him. Add the fact that he isn't quick to trust and suddenly you have someone who can push you away while still managing to be perfectly polite to you and giving you a smile.

[ Other Important Facts ] : Abilities - He is not a superhuman in any way. However, he is a highly trained assassin. His is able to use a variety of weaponry (knives, guns, garotte, etc.) However, his weapon of choice is the katana. Other skills that go along with this include: stealth, excellent observation skills, great speed and agility, strength, balance, and flexibility. On the flip side, he has a great knowledge of flowers as well as the ability to take on other jobs. (He’s been a florist, a flight attendant/pilot, construction worker, etc.) His skills are extremely flexible. Aside from this, he is also a very capable leader and mentor. He’s grown a lot since he was first seen in Kapitel.

Other - Aya has a habit of reading during his downtime. He enjoys the quiet. On the other hand, he is particularly close to Ken and shares a bond with him. The two of them are often found doing things together. He also seems to genuinely enjoy his side job of being a florist. A flaw he has though is that he will always put others before himself. This can be very bad for him in dangerous situations or if he's tired or ill or injured. They will always come first.

[ Sample ] :

Sometimes, he hated having afternoon shifts at the shop. For years now, Aya had been an early riser, due to nightmares of blood and killings and the belief that he could be slipping towards the path of being evil, and working in the afternoon meant that he had time to himself in the mornings. Though he was a private person and far from what some might call a 'social butterfly', he didn't always look forward to these moments. The reason was so simple. At times like that, he found his thoughts drifting towards the past. Towards his mistakes.

Aya. That was his name now. He'd taken it when he joined Weiss so he could get revenge. By using his sister's name, he could always be reminded of why he was an assassin. It had worked well until the day he found out that she'd come out of her coma. Things changed. Suddenly he knew that the only thing he'd done was stain her name in blood while he did the same to himself. Which meant that he couldn't go see her, and it took him three years to even talk to her on the phone, because he had to keep her away from all his sins.

He smiled then as he stared at his teacup. He'd fallen so far in his life. Once he'd been an ordinary high school student. Good grades, liking school, a wonderful family. True he'd been quieter than some but that had never been an issue. Then his parents were slaughtered and the house rigged to explode. He managed to get his sister away before the rubble could land on her but trapped himself in the process. By doing so, he was forced to watch a man called Takatori hit his sister with a car that sent her into a coma for two years. She was sixteen.

It had been her birthday.

Aya had his chance at revenge and took it. To find no real satisfaction in it. It was what had motivated him to try turning a young boy named Sena from that path. He didn't want him to become like him. To this day, the look on Sena's face in death haunted him. He had been an assassin for years without dying. The boy for such a short time before his life was taken from him.

There was no way he could make up for all the murders he'd been a part of over the years. Because that's all it was in the end. Murder. Ridding the world of the evils the law couldn't touch...by killing them. Even now that he was no longer a member of Weiss, he was still killing people. He couldn't stay in Weiss with any member of the Takatori clan running it. Not even someone who had once been a precious friend to him. Omi had made his choice to become Mamoru and Aya had made the choice to leave rather than follow a path he didn't believe in.

Now he was left with the hope that one day he might make up for all the murders. That he might actually...cleanse himself. At the same time though, he knew that wasn't possible. The only thing he could do was work to never become like Kikyou or his former master. Both had lost their way and killed innocent people. Sometimes he still had nightmares that Kikyou was telling him that he was evil and would one day kill others for the pleasure of doing so. If that happened, he prayed, actually prayed, that someone would come along to kill him off quickly. He didn't want to be that kind of monster.

Glancing at the clock, he noted the time and finished off his tea. The cup he left in the sink as he went down to the shop where Chloe, Ken and Yuki were working currently. Putting on his robe, he pushed all the pain that came from dwelling on memories aside in favor of a gentle smile as he approached an older woman.

He was a murderer, someone stained with blood who killed using his sister's name. But...he could at least give this one woman a bit of joy in her life by getting her these flowers she wanted. The one bit of good would never erase all the bad but that was alright. Even if he couldn't talk to his sister or see her now, he could think of how proud she would be to see him helping this one person. That little thought gave him strength as he helped the woman over to the counter.
